This website, and the eggs and feathers for sale here, have a colorful back-story. I wrote and released it in 2010, called "Just A Couple Of Chickens." It's a funny story - and poignant... because while it's funny to read, it wasn't always funny to live. But raising chickens is like that.
Now I've released the book as an e-book! Both on Kindle and as an ePUB through Smashwords. It will soon be available as a Barnes and Nobel nook book and on the Apple iBookstore - as soon as I convince Smashwords to accept the size of my cover image.
The e-book is ready for the Easter 2013 egg rush! It makes a very nice gift - print book or e-book. Plus it's very informative. About chickens. And how to raise...

The Coturnix Quail is the same kind of quail you would find in restaurants, and their eggs are often used in sushi and in gourmet foods. Their eggshells, blown for arts and crafts, are so beautiful that they are very popular in all kinds of egg decorating and eggery.
Blown eggshells for arts and crafts are collectibles, and the Coturnix egg is a great addition.
The shell is a light brown, with raised bumps and splotches of darker brown. Those natural decorations can be scrubbed off, not that anyone would want to - but they are a layer sitting on top of the eggshell. Sometimes the entire egg has a matt purplish or bluish chalky coating, also natural. The range of coturnix quail eggs patterns and shell finishes is huge.

Kyle Bean is an artist working in hand-crafted models, set design, and art direction. He has made some store front displays that are totally beautiful, and totally in the UK. But for those of us not in the UK, he has a cool portfolio on his website.
The Eggshell Chicken he made out of blown eggshells, chicken eggs of every color and shape, is eggstraordinary. And super fun to see.
I can see that the darkest eggs, used as accents, are the dark brown cuckoo maran chicken eggs, and I particularly like the way he has used the speckled brown eggs as the chicken's side and back pattern. Very clever!
