This is a real Emu egg on a clear plastic stand with a long brass hinge, cut with a beautiful curve along the long middle of the egg (top to bottom). Unlined and ready to decorate or display, this egg is ideal for making into a jewelry box, miniature peep scene, or decorated egg box. Some artists decorate hinged eggs with polymer clay, quilling, acrylic paint, decoupage, or findings and braid.
Each of our eggs is handmade and the edges are slightly textured. The hinge is positioned knuckle out, so the egg opens all the way. The hinge is not stiff, so the lid will not hold in the open position, but must be supported.
The Emu egg is deep green, @ 5.5 inches tall, 14 inches around tallest circumference, 10.5 inches around fattest circumference, 3/16ths inch to 1/2 inch hole (hole depends on the emu farmer and their method of blowing the egg). Pebbled surface texture that can be naturally glossy or matte. The actual egg will vary in exact measurements.
The curve cut will be slightly different on each egg to match their individual personalities. The hole is on the fat end of the egg. One of the pictures shows the hinge knuckle-in... but the eggs shipped are all with the hinge knuckle out, so the egg opens all the way.
